How can I tell when I need a Nissan battery replacement?

While age and usage play a role, your battery won’t automatically last for a certain number of years or miles. Instead, here are some tell-tale signs that a battery isn’t working right and might need replacing:

  • Dashboard warning lights: If your car detects an issue with your battery, you should see a battery or engine warning light pop up on your dashboard. Get your battery checked if you see them.
  • Difficulty starting your car: Batteries get less efficient over time, resulting in less power for your car’s starter motor. You might notice it taking longer than usual to fire up when you press an engine start button or turn the key.
  • Electrical power loss: Lights dimmer than usual? Windows slow or unresponsive? Then your battery could be about to give up on you.

Can you help me test my Nissan car battery?

If you’ve got a multimeter to hand and some basic mechanical know-how, you could test the battery yourself. Or you could use our free, quick and easy battery service instead!

We’ll check the voltage, start capacity and condition of your Nissan battery so you don’t have to. Getting it proactively checked is a great way to spot and deal with small issues before they get more serious. It’s especially important if your battery powers lots of modern in-car technology, like satellite navigation and infotainment options.

If the results of your battery test don’t look good, we can sort a replacement in minutes to get you back on the road.

What battery will my Nissan need?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Your ideal Nissan car battery will depend on the model you’re driving and how much oomph it needs.

Your owner’s manual should have the necessary guidance within its pages. Or you can save the hassle of searching and use our battery search tool for an instant recommendation! Our technicians can also recommend a battery when they test your existing one.

We’ll have what you need whatever the answer, and it’ll fall into one of these four categories:

NAPA AGM

AGM stands for absorbed glass mat. These batteries are ideal for bigger vehicles that use start-stop technology and brake regeneration. They’re the latest in lead-acid battery technology, completely sealed and using fibreglass mats to absorb loose acid, increasing energy output and lifespan.

They produce lower CO2 emissions too, even compared to advanced flooded batteries (AFBs).

NAPA AFB

AFBs are the evolution of standard flooded car batteries, also called enhanced cycle mat (ECM) or enhanced flooded batteries (EFBs). They’re also designed for cars with start-stop technology and higher cyclic demands.

NAPA PLUS

As the name suggests, NAPA PLUS batteries boast extra power and longer lifespans. They’re perfect for cars with intensive power demands through in-car technology such as satellite navigation, media players and safety systems.

NAPA

NAPA’s original flooded lead-acid battery works with most cars, including most Nissans. Their standard offering still delivers excellent performance, with great battery life and temperature resistance and reduced water loss.

Our guide to flooded, AGM and AFBs has more information on these three main types.

How long could my Nissan battery last?

There’s no easy answer. Your battery lifespan could vary depending on how you use it as well as factors out of your control, like extreme weather. Your original battery will probably have a manufacturer’s warranty for a certain length of time, so check your paperwork to see if you’re covered.

If it’s time for a new Nissan car battery, it’s reassuring to know all our batteries come with a minimum four-year warranty.

  • NAPA battery range: four-year guarantee
  • NAPA Plus: five-year guarantee
  • NAPA AFB and AGM ranges: five-year guarantee
