Ive been running previously with pilot sport 2's as per BMW recommendations. The Pilots take a lot of warming up but overall are a very good tyre except wet weather grip and poor conditions. These tyres need to be treated with respect in the wet especially cold. Loosing grip like driving on slicks and potentially lethal with over 400 hp to hand. The new tyres are a significant improvement over the Pilots in respects to sharper more lively handling. they feel more secure and certainly in the wet the Pilots are no match for the performance of these tyres. They look the business with a more extended side profile and I would give marks for visual impression of security. I would guestimate a good 30-40% grip improvement where it matters in our UK environment. Theres a lot written about tyre performance, asnd I was looking for a change to an all weather tyre. 2000 miles with the new ones, and well worth the change.
After scrubbing in (about 65-75 miles)I put the tyres though various conditions, wet, poor surfaces, motorways etc etc. They feel much lighter on the steering to the pilots and over poor bumpy surfaces takes more effort to keep a straight line. They will wander around and its noticable where the pilots kept thier line.
The tyres are quite noisy, thats the first thing i noticed and more pronounce over lesser smooth surfaces and could get annoying.
Summarily, For the UK, theyre a better overall tyre than the pilot's in the wet and by a significant margin, and thats where it counts.
