Ultra-high performance from Bridgestone POTENZA S001

The Bridgestone Potenza S001 is a summer tyre engineered for ultra-high performane. It is best suited for high performance saloon, sports and super cars, offering comfort, optimal performance and excellent safety. The Potenza S001 replaced the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A and with this upgrade comes exclusive features.

Fantastic grip levels

The Bridgestone S001 tyres exhibit an asymmetric tread pattern to deliver the perfect balance between dry handling and wet grip. The interlocking tread blocks on the outer tyre shoulder grip well on dry roads and allow for maximum handling characteristics. The continuous central circumferential rib contributes to precise steering responsiveness and heightened cornering response.

Extra driving stability

The Bridgestone S001 tyres internal structure consists of twin steel belts with nylon wrapping, which ensures high speed stability. This feature also reduces the rolling resistance, which makes fuel consumption more efficient, reducing the overall fuel costs.

Robust tyre sidewall

Active rubber inserts in the sidewall reinforces sidewall stiffness, which improves ride quality and offers greater grip when cornering. This also contributes towards increasing traction on both wet and dry surfaces, leading to greater braking responsiveness.

Protection against aquaplaning

The risk of skidding or losing control in wet weather conditions has been greatly reduced. The lateral grooves within the tread pattern help channel water away from the contact area to ensure a comfortable and stable drive.

This pattern may be suitable as Original Equipment for a number of different car manufacturers. If you are unsure what the symbols mean within the tyre search results, please head over to our tyre symbols guide.

After buying these tyers on the 16th July l had one blow out on my car on the 10th October not satisfied when returned to the dealer with his explanation regarding the fault they said a puncture at speed would result in the tyre splitting in two. I did notice when one of the tyers were fitted they had trouble getting one sealed and had to use a hammer to do this I think. I think we should have been offered a replacement tyre as their had only covered about 1000 miles but they dismised this out of hand. I would have liked the tyre to be returned to the manufacturer for closer inspection to see if their was a defect in the tyre in question but this was not offered. Conclusion very disapointed with there respone in this matter.

As stated above not 100% satisfied l know a puncture can happen at anytime but with around 1000 miles l didn't expect a tyre to split in two.

As originally fitted by BMW during vehicle build.

As these are Runflat Type and are not repairable I have had punctures caused by road debris (discarded nails/screws) that have rendered otherwise partially worn but otherwise good tyres unusable. In terms of choice given that I am obliged to maintain Car with similar specification/type and size of tyre as originally specified by the Manufacturer-Runflats are required because car has no spare wheel and front axle tyres differ in size and aspect ratio to rear axle set, wheels are therefore not fully interchangeable that could otherwise help to even out wear pattern across available tyre tread width. Cannot answer last question for obvious reasons as they are BMW 320D car specific.

in fairness i wanted a rainmaster to match the other 3 on the car which i paid for on line within a few hours i had a call from head office to say there was no stock of rainmaster and offered me a potenza (which was a dearer tyre) for the same price cant complain there , that gave us another problem as the rainmaster has a unique offset tread patern so carmarthen branch put the two rear tyres on the front and the new potenza on the rear which meant more work for them but they didnt complain so all in all great service from carmarten and head office i alwas compare prices (i have to ,but full marks all round )

Not enough time to work tread vs mileage but At the moment they seem a great tyre.

The only very slight niggle, as they are Z rated, they are meant to be a harder compound (I believe) so there is a slight bit more road noise but nothing that detracts from their performance.

They were already fitted to my car and apart from the noise levels, on badly surfaced roads, I was quite happy with their performance. The renewal price was good for the quality of tyre.

They wore out very quickly on the front but the rear are proving more durable. In my opinion this is not too surprising for a car with too much power going through the front wheels, as well as steering etc.; it is difficult too put the power down on occasions. However it was still disappointing to have to change them before 8000 miles, with the new depth regulations.

Old tyres were still had legal tread but reaching the end of their days at 240000 miles. New tyres felt instantly better on cold mornings and in the wet with less tyre slip on wet junctions

Car runs on 18-inch wheels so never going to be particularly quiet with regards to road noise but it is noticeable with these tyres

I bought these tyres for the front as the car already had them fitted and rears still have plenty of tread. they have a shoulder which helps prevent kerbing. they are very reasonably priced.

The tread pattern is different to the existing older equivalent tyres with larger gaps in the tread pattern like winter tyres. They are very noisy. I would not buy them again for this reason.

A little expensive and as Run Flat tyres the ride is a little (only a little) harsh. I would have liked to have been offered insurance as after 250 miles I had a puncture and was told they couldn’t be repaired. £180 down the drain.

Good tyres, perform well in both wet and dry under normal driving.

Could be better in the wet if driving with spirit, but these is as much down to the very high torque of the car which will test any tyres. In terms of grip for cost they are good.

The tyres are well designed. The tread pattern is excellent. The price is very good for premium tyres. I wanted all 4 the same. I was originally going to get Pirelli's but they didn't have 4. They had 4 of the Bridgestone so I got those. Very happy with them.

I think the tyres are a little more noisy than stated but that could be the road!. Other than that nothing to dislike about them

These tyres came with the vehicle when purchased from the showroom and I have stayed with the same tyre everytime a replacement was necessary they have been a very good around tyre for me.

The only downside of this tyre for me is that being a run flat it cannot be repaired and I have had to replace tyres that have not been very old with plenty tread depth due to punctures.

Seems to be a good tyre overall, used for around 5000 miles thus far. Tread seems good so far, hopefully they last a decent length of miles. Good grip, seem great off the line and even under hard breaking they have been great.

On BMWs the outside edge seems to wear overly quickly compared to the rest of the tyre. Apparently its the way the camber is set on the front end

Ive been running previously with pilot sport 2's as per BMW recommendations. The Pilots take a lot of warming up but overall are a very good tyre except wet weather grip and poor conditions. These tyres need to be treated with respect in the wet especially cold. Loosing grip like driving on slicks and potentially lethal with over 400 hp to hand. The new tyres are a significant improvement over the Pilots in respects to sharper more lively handling. they feel more secure and certainly in the wet the Pilots are no match for the performance of these tyres. They look the business with a more extended side profile and I would give marks for visual impression of security. I would guestimate a good 30-40% grip improvement where it matters in our UK environment. Theres a lot written about tyre performance, asnd I was looking for a change to an all weather tyre. 2000 miles with the new ones, and well worth the change.

After scrubbing in (about 65-75 miles)I put the tyres though various conditions, wet, poor surfaces, motorways etc etc. They feel much lighter on the steering to the pilots and over poor bumpy surfaces takes more effort to keep a straight line. They will wander around and its noticable where the pilots kept thier line. The tyres are quite noisy, thats the first thing i noticed and more pronounce over lesser smooth surfaces and could get annoying. Summarily, For the UK, theyre a better overall tyre than the pilot's in the wet and by a significant margin, and thats where it counts.

Good grip in both wet and dry. Handling is good. They don't tend to tramline like some tyres (Continental Sport Contact 3 were very bad).

Noise levels are quite high. Tyre is rated at 73db. Will be buying a quieter tyre next time e.g. Goodyear F1 Asy2 or maybe Avon ZZ5. Wear is poorer than I would expect for a premium tyre as well - have done <8K miles and the fronts are down to 4mm.
