Cooper to Auction ‘Art Tyres’ in Aid of Help for Heroes
17 Sep 2012
Cooper Tire Europe is to auction three unique ‘art tyres’ with all proceeds being donated to Tedworth House – Help for Heroes’ flagship recovery centre.
At the beginning of 2012, Cooper Tire commissioned a series of ‘art tyres’ to celebrate its rich history. Artists were given tyres as blank canvases and
used a range of paints and materials to create the finished articles. The tyres were displayed at Artica Galleries, Bond Street (part of the Castle
Galleries group), earlier this year.
The tyre manufacturer is an official supporter of the Race2Recovery team (R2R), which is predominantly made up of injured soldiers with a passion for speed
who are keen to prove that their injuries will not define their lives. The team aims to compete in the world famous Dakar Rally in 2013 on Cooper tyres.
While achieving goals ‘beyond injury’, R2R has also raised a great deal of money for Tedworth House – a project coordinated through a number of service
charities, in particular Help for Heroes. With this in mind, Cooper Tire decided on Tedworth House project as a fitting recipient of the auction proceeds.
Tedworth House, based in the garrison town of Tidworth, is Help for Heroes’ leading recovery centre. The centre seeks to inspire wounded, sick, injured,
and returning war veterans, allowing them to lead independent and fulfilled lives. Focusing on holistic life skills and activities, Tedworth House will
operate at full capacity from autumn 2012, welcoming 54 residents and 30 day visitors to the Wiltshire centre.
Three tyres – two winter and one motorcycle – will be auctioned online. Artist John Wilson designed and painted a floral scene on an Avon motorcycle tyre,
Richard Rowan created a central winter scene on an Avon Ice Touring ST winter tyre, while Stefan Marner transformed his Avon winter tyre into an oversized
Cooper Tire Europe marketing communications manager, Sarah McRoberts, said, “When the decision to auction the tyres was taken, it felt only right that we
donate the proceeds to a cause which we have worked so closely and one we fully endorse. The work that Tedworth House does, with the
support of Help for Heroes and other service charities, is truly life-changing and inspirational and we’re delighted that we can help the centre continue
to support injured servicemen, servicewomen and their families.”
Co-founder of Race2Recovery, Captain Anthony Harris was touched by Cooper’s decision “Everyone at Cooper Tire has been extremely good to us at
Race2Recovery – the advice and support that they offer us has been fantastic and we’re touched that they have chosen Help for Heroes, Tedworth House, as
the beneficiary of the auction proceeds. Help for Heroes’ work makes a huge difference to the lives of wounded army personnel and their families and the
Tedworth House project will benefit hugely from the auction proceeds.”
The auction is now live on eBay (
). Bidders will have the option to bid on each tyre, and the auction will close on Saturday, September 22ndat 0930. All proceeds will be donated
to Tedworth House.
