Bridgestone hosts Olympic-themed sports day in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice

16 Aug 2012

Midlands-based Acorns Children’s Hospice is feeling the benefit of the burn after the exertions of Bridgestone staff at the company’s Olympic-themed sports day raised more than £700 for the charity.

The fundraiser saw staff at the company offices in Leamington Spa competing in events such as rowing, cycling and archery. Local paralympian Anna Turney, who is currently being sponsored by Bridgestone, was invited to award prizes for each individual discipline, as well as an overall team winner.

More than £350 was raised from staff contributions with the company generously doubling the donation to its chosen charity for 2012.

Established in 1988, the charity offers care for terminally ill youngsters and their families, across the Midlands. Acorns provides tailored nursing, emergency care and short breaks for the children at each of its three hospices across the region as well as continual support for their families from its highly trained Community Team.

John McNaught, managing director at Bridgestone UK, said: “The sports day was a great success; there has been a lot of competitiveness, laughter and most importantly, money raised for Acorns. This is one of several events we have held this year in aid of the charity and we are well on the way to hitting our £3,000 target.

“Acorns is an extremely worthy cause offering hope and comfort to children and families burdened by some of the very toughest things life can throw at you. We are proud to be supporting its work throughout 2012.”
