Paying in instalments has become very popular in recent years when it comes to ordering items online. A major provider of instalment payments is PayPal, which offer a ‘Pay in 3’ system, allowing the customer to spread payments over 3 instalments.

National Tyres and Autocare work with a similar payment option called Payment Assist, which offer the opportunity to spread the cost over 4 easy monthly instalments. In this blog, we’ll assess the pros and cons of both methods, and help you spread the cost of tyres and vehicle repairs.

About PayPal Pay in 3

Pay in 3 is PayPal’s instalment method that can be used on a wide range of online purchases. The instalments are split monthly, and there are no fees or charges to use the service. This is different from PayPal credit, which is their 'Buy Now, Pay Later' payment option.

How are PayPal and Payment Assist different?

Whilst PayPal splits instalments across 3 payments, Payment Assist splits the total cost across 4 equal payments. Both providers don’t charge interest or fees. PayPal will affect your credit score should you choose their instalment option, whereas any cost under £1000 won’t affect your credit score when using Payment Assist.

Advantages of using Payment Assist

Payment Assist can offer multiple benefits over PayPal and other instalment solutions, such as Klarna or ClearPay.

To use Payment Assist, you won’t need to download an app. Simply sign up through our website when placing your order, and your account and payments can all be managed online. Once your order is complete, your account will disappear, meaning you won’t get any emails from Payment Assist, or have to worry about keeping an account open.

The acceptance rate of Payment Assist is 98%. This means you’re more likely to be accepted and can complete your purchase using Payment Assist, so you don’t need to worry about Payment Assist impacting your credit score.

The support team for Payment Assist is UK based, so you can always get in touch with a reliable support team member. You can find their contact details on the Payment Assist website.

Both providers offer interest-free instalments. If you are late for a payment through Payment Assist, you still won’t be charged any interest or fees. One of their friendly customer service team will help you resolve any problems you may be experiencing with paying on time.

Payment Assist spreads the cost over a longer period of time, 4 months compared to PayPal’s 3 months. This means that each monthly instalment will be lower due to it being split over a longer time period.
