We get hundreds of reviews each month on Trustpilot, but not all customers talk about specific products or tyres, so when customers make a tyre purchase, we ask them to review / rate the tyre.

premium tyre reviews

This is how we work out the review ratings on our website, to help customers find the perfect tyre for their vehicle, whether that’s for performance in the wet or dry, steering responsiveness, cornering stability, resistance to aquaplaning, tread wear versus mileage, ride comfort / smoothness, noise level, quality versus price and general appearance / tyre pattern.

The Continental Sport Contact 5 was actually launched in 2012 as a replacement for the Continental Sport Contact 3. Although it has now been replaced with the Continental Sport Contact 6, it still remains a very popular choice with our customers due to its multiple award wins, including a prestigious 1st place in the 2013 Auto Express Summer Tyre Test and a 1st place in the 2014 EVO Max Performance Summer Tyre Test. It also received top honours in the 2015 Auto Express Tyre Test.

In second place – The Pirelli P Zero – 9.1/10

Customer Ratings: Scores excellent for Grip in the Dry, Cornering Stability, Resistance to Aquaplaning, Tread wear versus mileage, Ride Comfort / Smoothness, Noise Level, Quality versus Price and General Appearance / Tread Pattern

Customer comments: “The tyres are amazing for high speeds on the motorway and grip very well, even when I brake suddenly and harshly! I would definitely recommend it to others and although they are quite expensive, the price is so worth it.” 9.8/10

Manufacturer Pirelli

The original P Zero tyre was launched in 2010 and then relaunched with this model in 2016 using the most advanced technology and materials available to the official Formula 1 tyre supplier. The new P Zero provides better handling; more durability (extended tyre life); better wet grip (improved water expulsion); is quieter and has 15% less rolling resistance than its predecessor (increased fuel consumption). The P Zero has featured in the top spots of many UK and European tyre tests and in 2016 achieved a 2nd place finish in the highly coveted Auto Express Summer Tyre Test.

In third place – The Dunlop Sport BluResponse – 8.9/10

Customer Ratings: Scores excellent for Grip in the Dry, Noise Level, Quality versus Price and General Appearance / Tread Pattern

Customer comments: “Noticeable decrease in road noise and slightly better fuel economy. Both, as expected from the tyre ratings.” 8.6/10

Annual Mileage 6,000

Manufacturer Dunlop

The Ultra High Performance Dunlop Sport BluResponse (which replaced the Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response) was launched in 2013 and was derived from Dunlop’s work in motorsport. The BluResponse was designed to find the most optimal level of performance taking into account the need for low fuel consumption, raw grip and good wear properties. The BluResponse came straight out of the starting blocks with 1st place wins in three of the top European tyre tests and then in 2014 won 1st place in the Auto Express Summer Tyre Test and followed that up the following year with a 2nd place win (an accomplishment it repeated in 2017).

National’s verdict

We were not surprised to see these tyres in the top three most reviewed premium tyres in June. The Dunlop Sport BluResponse has achieved 4 test wins between 2013-2020; the Pirelli P Zero has achieved test 5 wins between 2010-2020, but the Continental Sport Contact 5 tops the list with 13 test wins between 2012-2020! This is reflected in the placings given to it buy our customers.
